Portugal splits into three driving countries. The mainland is motorways and short distances — Lisbon to Faro is under three hours. Madeira is a mountain in the sea, where twenty kilometres can take an hour. The Azores are quieter still, with one ring road per island and cloud sitting on the crater rims.
